Foundations in Learning Technologies Certificate

What?
two computers communicatingThis program is designed to introduce graduate students to emerging learning technologies that they will be able to use in their professional lives either in academe or elsewhere.

When?
This program is offered year round.

Who?
Participants must be currently enrolled UNLV graduate students while attending any part of the program.

How?

What?
You must attend the following sessions:

  • Course Management Systems Overview
  • Pedagogically-sound Use of PowerPoint
  • Graduate Web Page Publishing
  • Avoiding Plagiarism
  • Smart Internet Searching
  • RefWorks, Bibliographic Software Overview or WebCampus Overview
  • Find It! Books and Journals on the Web
  • Free Software
  • Podcasting
  • RSS Feeds
  • One additional workshop of your choice from the open-enrollment list of available workshops, the following are a few examples:
    • SMARTboard
    • Graduate Web Page Publishing II
    • PowerPoint Basics
    • PowerPoint II - Multimedia Features
    • SPSS I
    • SPSS II
    • Research on the Internet
    • Second Life Educational Trends
    • The Invisible Web
    • Teaching with YouTube
    • Introduction to Flash

You must also complete a reflective writing assignment on the Benefits and Challenges of Using Learning Technologies in Teaching. The assignment must be a 3 page, double-spaced, reflection that describes your perspective on the benefits and challenges of using learning technologies in college teaching or other teaching settings. This writing assignment should include a discussion of how your participation in the Foundations in Learning Technology Certificate program has affected your perspective. Your teaching experiences should also be incorporated into this assignment. When completed, sign and date the statement and have your academic advisor sign and date it as well.

The capstone of the program is to demonstrate how you have applied knowledge gained from these workshops in your teaching or studies by presenting at a Learning Technologies Show and Tell Session.
