Professional Development Program in College Teaching (GSPDP)
This is a TLC program designed to provide students with an opportunity to acquire and improve their college teaching skills through a variety of approaches, experiences and resources. Those already teaching can enhance their practice; those who wish to become GTAs can increase their credibility.
Everyone will gain a competitive edge when submitting a resume for job consideration.
Eligibility: Full-time UNLV graduate students
(To participate in this program, you don't need to be a current GTA!)
Cost: The program is free!
Credit: Some departments may offer a one-credit Pedagogy Option.
Program Outline
- Completion of the two-day Introduction to Teaching workshop
- Participation in at least six (6) hour-long monthly Teaching Forums during the academic year
- Teaching of at least one one-term course or lab (or an acceptable equivalent) and submission of materials
- Review of materials on pedagogy in the candidate's discipline and general pedagogy
- Development of an emerging teaching philosophy statement
The program can be completed in one year!
